January 27th “Chili Fail”

January 28th, 2010 § 0

The Premise: Utilize the beautiful and vibrant color palate from the chili con carne the other night as the basis for a engaging design composition.

The Result: Epic Fail. Yeah, didn’t have much luck with that, and decided I’d rather go to sleep instead of flogging more dead horses.

2010|365: A Design Project
In an effort to keep from getting creatively stagnant as I go through the course of a 9-5 design job, as well as staving off general laziness, I’ve undertaken this personal project.
Every day, rain, shine or somewhere inbetween, I will be making something cool. The results may be photos, design pieces, experimental type, videos, or anything else I feel is worth showing. The only caveat will be that each piece will have to be made that day, even though it might not get posted on the same day.
The end result of the project will be a book (possibly 365 pages long, maybe shorter to reduce costs), which I will make available to anyone who wants to pay for one.

January 26th “Lunch Club Order Form”

January 28th, 2010 § 0

Lunch Club, one of the nice perks of working at Raincoast Books. In the marketing department, about 10-13 of belong to the Lunch Club. The deal is, every Wednesday, one person makes a nice lunch for everyone else. It’s pretty sweet, but somewhat stressful and time-consuming when it’s your turn.
In my continuing quest to make life more difficult for my self, in addition to making the hummus, foccacia, roasted red pepper soup, and putting together sandwiches, I also put together this little order form so everyone could let me know what they’d like on their sandwich.

Take a look at it big, if you’d like to place an order.

"That is the way we decided to talk, free and easy, two young men discussing a boxing match. That was the only way to talk. You couldn’t let too much truth seep into your conversation, you couldn’t admit with your mouth what your eyes had seen. If you opened the door even a centimeter, you would smell the rot outside and hear the screams. You did not open the door. You kept your mind on the tasks of the day, the hunt for food and water and something to burn, and you saved the rest for the end of the war."

January 22th “Bathroom”

January 23rd, 2010 § 0

Whilst it may not be something I made, it is something I fixed. Oddly enough, a roomful of industrial designers, and no one knew how to stop an overflowing toilet.

January 20th “Galaxie: SOL”

January 21st, 2010 § 0

So, a few days ago, I had the notion to create a series of posters on the solar system. Something similar to what decorated the walls of my classrooms as a kid. Only much cooler and more designy.
Seemed like something right up my alley.

I had gotten about this far when I came across a couple people on ffffound who had recently done the same thing (more or less). So, until I can take the appropriate time to rival the coolness of this, I’m going to put this one aside. For now, just go check out the link, it’s pretty damn awesome.

January 19th “Lorem Ipsum II”

January 21st, 2010 § 0

A little less girly interpretation of the second section of the Lorem Ipsum translation.
This one has acquired some belly pudge.

Part two of a three part translation of the ubiquitous "Lorem Ipsum", most commonly used as placeholder text when fleshing out a design concept.
