revise and reformat

So, after a fair amount of feedback in class and a separate critique at “Crit Night 3: The Reckoning” I seem to be on the right track (more or less), but have a few things to address.
Issues
Too much happening on each page. Illustrations, text and photos are a bit much.
Simplified it down a bit so that it ends up with just one or two separate elements on each page to reduce the clutter.
Still a bit over people’s heads.
Making the language simpler will help to make it approachable. The text will take a two-tone approach, with the captions and pulls providing layperson language, and the text providing the useful factual information.
The illustrations could use a bit more character.
I’m planning on going through and jazzing them up a bit, making them a little less “bathroomy”

One Response to “revise and reformat”

  1. Isabelle says:

It’s coming along Mark—though not very rapidly. The evolution in the type treatment works and allows a separation of content that might make the whole more intelligible. The icons are still fairly generic and though the double-page spread with Einstein is now more effective, I’m still unclear as to who is speaking in the quotation.

Have you clarified the entire content you’re including? I’m a touch concerned that you’re only at this stage with one week left. Have you explored further how the diagrams could be developed to be more understandable and perhaps humorous? What should your reader come away with after reading this book? Your sample spreads don’t display real content so I don’t know how you’ve elected to resolve the introduction of the premise and then the subsections of the main text. Until you do more I can’t really give you constructive feedback.
